Original 1933 Monopoly Sold For $146,500 – Now Housed At Strong Museum In Rochester

The oldest known version of the game Monopoly was purchased by the Strong Museum in Rochester,  New York in 2010, and continues to be on display in their National Toy Hall of Fame.

Real Monopoly players know what a big part of the game involves going into and getting out of bankruptcy. Perhaps Monopoly’s creator, Charles Darrow was inspired by the bankruptcies of three iconic Atlantic City Hotels that fell into receivership in the years just before he created the game in 1933.
